Who has most GC victories in Tour de France history? And which active professional received most leader jerseys? In this article you'll find stats relating to the Tour de France of 2025.

Eindzege: 4e voor Pogacar of komt Vingegaard op 3?

It is a historical unique fac that Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard were the number 1 and 2 in the final classification of the Tour de France for the past 4 seasons. The same number 1 and 2 for 4 years in a row, that has never happened. The rivalry between the two riders is rightly the greatest in the history of the Tour de France. Pogacar and Vingegaard finished 1 and 2 in 12 of the same Tour de France stages, that is the first time two riders have achieved that. Will Pogacar win his fourth of 6 Tours? Or is it Vingegaard's turn again to beat the Slovenian with his Visma?

Only twice in history has the Tour de France final podium looked exactly the same for two years in a row. In advance, it does not seem unlikely that Pogacar, Vingegaard and Evenepoel will also be on the final podium in that order in 2025. Armstrong, Ullrich and Beloki finished 1 to 3 in 2000 and 2001 and in 1978 and 1979 Zoetemelk and Agostinho finished 2nd and 3rd behind Bernard Hinault.

Stage-wins: Pogacar vs Cavendish?

Tadej Pogacar is well on his way to becoming one of the riders with the most stage wins in Tour de France history. If he continues at this pace (an average of 3.4 stage wins per participation) he will need 5 more editions to equal Merckx and overtake Cavendish in the 2030 Tour de France.

New Triple Club Members?

There are 11 riders active in a professional team who are eligible to complete their trilogy of stage wins in all major tours. These 11 riders have already won one or more stages in the Giro and Vuelta, but not yet in the Tour de France. Only 4 of them are also on the provisional start list of the Tour de France 2025: Filippo Ganna, Kaden Groves, Pascal Ackermann and Tim Wellens.

Filippo Ganna seems to be the biggest contender to become a trilogy member in this Tour. He can also complete his trilogy of time trials, which Remco Evenepoel managed last year. Groves and Ackermann also have a small chance if they are allowed to sprint for themselves while Wellens rides entirely in the service of his leader.

Riders who won a stage in Giro and Vuelta, but are not (yet) at the startlist of Tour de France are Alberto Dainese, Brandon McNulty, Damiano Caruso, Esteban Chaves, Gianluca Brambilla en Mikel Landa.

6th Tour de France edition with a stage-win for Groenewegen and Pogacar?

André Darrigade's record (11 Tour de France editions with a stage win) will remain in the books for a while, but there are two riders at the start who can come a step closer. Tadej Pogacar (2020-2024) and Dylan Groenewegen (2017-2019, 2022 and 2024) both won a stage in 5 editions and can, with a stage win in 2025, equal 17 riders who have won a stage in 6 editions (including Sagan, Greipel, Cancellara, Merckx, Zabel, McEwen, Poulidor, Raas, Cipollini and Knetemann).

Days in yellow: Pogacar on his way to 50, and first one for Evenepoel?

Eddy Merckx remains mister 'maillot jaune' with 111 yellow jerseys received after stages in the Tour de France. Lance Armstrong received a yellow jersey 84 times after a stage during his 7 years of hegemony. Tadej Pogacar has now led the general classification after 40 stages and still has 7 riders ahead of him. If Pogacar leads 12 or more stages in 2025, he will pass greats Sylvere Maes and Jacques Anquetil and Froome and Indurain will also have to fear for their place in the rankings.

If Remco Evenepoel manages to get the yellow jersey (for example after the time trial in stage 5), he will be the 26th rider ever to have led the general classification in all three major tours.
