Thursday May 15th 2025: Stage 6 - Potenza - Napels (226km, sprint)

After a break of several years, Naples has been a permanent fixture as the finish location of the Giro d'Italia since 2022. The sixth stage on Thursday 15 May takes the peloton over 226 kilometres from Potenza to the city on the famous bay. Where Potenza was the setting for an exciting hilly stage three years ago, it now serves as the starting point for a varied stage in which the course undulates considerably in the early stages. Immediately after the start, the riders are presented with a few short climbs, followed by a long descent and the Valico di Monte Carruozzo, a climb of almost 20 kilometres at a modest 3.8%.

After these first obstacles, the terrain remains undulating for some time, with the climb to Monteforte Irpino as the next obstacle: more than 11 kilometres of climbing at a slight 3 to 4%. From the highest point, about 82 kilometers from the finish, there is a long descent after which the course towards Naples is almost flat and the sprinter teams can prepare for a mass sprint.

Naples has seen a number of memorable finals in recent years: Olav Kooij sprinted to his first Grand Tour victory in 2024, Mads Pedersen was the fastest in 2023 and Thomas De Gendt soloed to victory in 2022. In the past, big names such as Mark Cavendish, Mario Cipollini and Rik van Steenbergen have also added their names to the list of honors. With this 46th Giro finish in Naples, the city can once again prepare for a spectacular finale.
