Giro d'Italia 2025 - Prediction stage 20

Saturday May 31st 2025: stage 20 - Verrès - Sestrière (205km, mountaintop finish)

The twentieth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2025 is a true apotheosis for the classification riders. After a relatively calm start on flat roads, the riders are presented with a very tough course in the second half of the stage, with some of the most legendary climbs in Italian cycling.

After the first hundred kilometres, in which the peloton can save their legs, the Colle del Lys awaits. This climb of almost fourteen kilometres has an average gradient of just under five percent. After the top, there is a descent and a stretch through the valley, after which the riders prepare for the absolute highlight of the day: the Colle delle Finestre.

This giant of a mountain is almost nineteen kilometres long and has gradients that are consistently around nine to ten percent. The second half of the climb is unpaved, which makes it extra tough for the riders. The top of the Finestre is the highest point of this Giro and is less than thirty kilometres from the finish. This is where big differences can be made.

After a technical descent, the final challenge follows: the climb to Sestriere. This climb is long, but less steep than the previous mountains. The first part gradually climbs, after which the last part leads to the finish with an average gradient of just over five percent.

This stage is made for attackers and climbers who still want to force something in the classification. The combination of long climbs, an unpaved section and a difficult finale ensures that only the strongest have a chance of winning the day. It promises to be a spectacle in which the classification will finally fall into place.
