Wednesday May 28th 2025: Stage 17 -  San Michele All'Adige - Bormio (155km, mountain finish at plateau)

The seventeenth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2025 will take the peloton from San Michele all’Adige to Bormio over a distance of 154 kilometres. This stage is completely dedicated to the mountains and includes some of the most legendary climbs in Italian cycling.

The course goes uphill almost immediately from the start. The first seventy kilometres go steadily uphill towards the Passo del Tonale. This climb is over fifteen kilometres long with an average gradient of six percent. After the top, there is a long descent, after which the riders prepare for the infamous Passo del Mortirolo. This climb is twelve kilometres long with an average gradient of 7.6 percent and has some particularly steep sections at the end that can make the difference.

After the Mortirolo, there is another descent. The final section towards Bormio consists of rolling and slightly descending roads, but the fatigue from the previous climbs will weigh heavily on the legs of the peloton. The arrival town of Bormio is at the foot of the Stelvio, but it will not be climbed in this stage.

This stage is tailor-made for climbers and classification riders. The tough climbs offer plenty of opportunities to gain or lose time. Expect attacks from strong climbers and a battle between the favourites for the final classification. The riders who perform well here will take an important step towards a high final classification in this Giro.
