Giro d'Italia 2025 - Prediction stage 16

Tuesday May 27th 2025: stage 16 - Gubbio- Siena (203km, mountaintop finish)

The sixteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2025 promises to be a real battle of attrition. The riders will start from Piazzola sul Brenta, a place without any significant cycling history, but which today forms the backdrop for one of the toughest stages of this tour.

After a flat approach of over sixty kilometres, the climbing begins with La Fricca, a climb of almost thirteen kilometres at an average gradient of 4.6%. From that moment on, the altitude meters follow each other in rapid succession and the flat meters are over.

The next challenge is the climb to Candriai, over ten kilometres long with a tough average gradient of 7%. This is the first part of the famous Monte Bondone climb. This is followed by a relatively easy passage to Vigo Cavedine, where the riders can recover over a climb of over nine kilometres at only 2.9%.

Halfway through the stage, the real work only really begins. The Santa Barbara is a serious obstacle with its 12.7 kilometres at an average of 8.3%, with sections that climb up to 14%. The final climb to San Valentino, which starts from Brentonico, is long and treacherous with 18 kilometres at an average of 6.2%. The climb has several steep sections and is built up in three stages, which makes it extra tough.

With five major climbs and almost five thousand metres of elevation, this stage is an excellent opportunity for the GC riders to make a difference. The expectation is that the GC will be shaken up considerably here, especially so soon after the rest day. The riders who get through this well will take a big step towards the final podium of this Giro.
