Vuelta a España 2026 – Youth GC prediction
The Youth GC
The Youth GC of the Vuelta a España is for the best rider under 25 in the general classification. The leader wears the white jersey in the following stage, and the overall winner takes the white jersey for good. For the 2026 edition, riders born on or after 1 January 2001 are eligible. Among this year's 184 starters, an unusually high number of riders meet that cut-off while also playing a role in the general classification.
Route and chances
The 2026 Vuelta features 21 stages with six mountain stages and two individual time trials, including the opening 9.4-kilometre prologue in Monaco and a time trial of more than 32 kilometres in the second week of racing. The route runs from Monaco to Granada and includes several summit finishes, including Alto de Aitana, Calar Alto, Peñas Blancas and Collado del Alguacil. That profile favours the climbers over the long run: riders who can limit their losses in the time trials and perform consistently in the mountains have the biggest advantage in the Youth GC.

The top favourite is Oscar Onley (born 2002), who moved from Team Picnic-PostNL to INEOS Grenadiers. Onley had a strong 2025 season with a fourth place in the Tour de France and is among the climbers with proven grand tour-level performance in this field.
Behind Onley there are several challengers. Jarno Widar (born 2005, Lotto-Intermarché) starts as his team's leader for the general classification and makes his grand tour debut. Cian Uijtdebroeks (born 2003) moved to Movistar and joins Enric Mas after reshuffling his programme towards the Vuelta following the Tour de France. Pablo Torres (born 2005, UAE Team Emirates) makes his first grand tour and is regarded as one of the most talented climbers of his generation. Luke Tuckwell (born 2004, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) is in his first WorldTour season and already showed good legs in multi-day stage races this year. Jorgen Nordhagen is the GC prospect on Visma | Lease a Bike without a clear GC leader in his team. And what about last year's winner Matthew Riccitello?
