Wednesday 9 September – Vuelta a España stage 17: Dos Hermanas → Sevilla (185 km)

Route

Stage 17 of the Vuelta a España 2026 takes the peloton from Dos Hermanas to Sevilla. The stage is 185 kilometres long and the riders tackle 1,084 metres of climbing along the way. This makes it the flattest stage of this Vuelta.

No categorised climbs are on the menu. The elevation gain comes from kilometres of false flat around the Guadalquivir. From Dos Hermanas the route first makes a loop to the south: at km 6.5 the peloton passes Los Palacios y Villafranca, at km 19.6 Utrera follows. At km 24.2 the race turns towards El Coronil, where the riders pass again at km 39.8 before the road bends back towards Sevilla.

Along the way the intermediate sprint is in San José de la Rinconada, in the municipality of La Rinconada. Bonus seconds can be earned there: 6, 4 and 2 seconds for the first three. After the intermediate sprint the road leads through increasingly urbanised terrain to the finish in Sevilla.

Final kilometres

The finish is on the banks of the Guadalquivir, opposite the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza in Sevilla. The last corner is 1,200 metres before the line, on a straight and flat run-in to the finish. For the winner and the first two chasers there are 10, 6 and 4 bonus seconds to be earned.

Recent editions

Sevilla is not a fixed finish city in the Vuelta. The last time the city hosted a stage was in 2024, on what was then the flattest stage of that edition (Fuente del Maestre - Sevilla, 177 km). Pavel Bittner (DSM-Firmenich-PostNL) beat Wout van Aert in a photo finish, with Kaden Groves third.

Scenarios

A stage for the pure sprinters. The flat finish in Sevilla, without any climbs, generally leads to a bunch sprint. Van Aert, Brennan, Meeus and Coquard have already won a Vuelta stage in a sprint this season and are among the favourites.

Early breakaways get a chance on paper, but the teams with sprint interests have kept flat stages in this Vuelta under control so far.

Local

Dos Hermanas is hosting a Vuelta stage start for the first time this year. The finish is at the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza, the famous bullfighting arena of Sevilla on the Guadalquivir.

Weather forecast

On Wednesday a warm day is expected in Sevilla: a maximum of 34.3°C and a minimum of 22.1°C. No precipitation is expected. In the finale there will be a westerly wind with gusts up to 10.3 km/h, which will have little influence on the race.
