Wednesday July 23rd 2025: Stage 17 - Bollène – Valence (160.4 km, sprint)

The seventeenth stage is a transition stage from Bollène to Valence, ideal for sprinters who want to survive the Alps. The course is largely flat, with only a few gentle undulations in the first part of the stage. After the start in Bollène, the peloton heads north through the Rhône Valley, known for its wind-sensitive open sections. Echelons can form here, especially if the mistral blows up.

The final stage towards Valence is wide and clear, with a long straight approach to the finish. This is a day on which the sprinter teams will firmly take control. However, they must remain alert: strong attackers can try to surprise on the undulating approach, but the chance of a mass sprint is high. The finish in Valence is popular with sprinters, with a wide and fast arrival lane.

This day will probably not change much for the classification, unless there are crashes or echelons. The classification riders will mainly try to stay out of trouble and save energy for the tough Alpine stages that follow. For the sprinters this is one of the last chances for a stage win, so the battle for the wheel will be fierce.
