Wednesday April 19th 2026: La Flèche Wallonne Femmes 2026 - Huy - Huy (148km)

La Flèche Wallonne Féminine is here in 2026 with its familiar and decisive formula: a controlled build-up toward the Mur de Huy, where the race is almost invariably decided. The course again centres around Huy, featuring a series of short, sharp climbs that gradually wear down the peloton before the final ascent.

The route includes multiple passages over key Ardennes hills such as the Côte d’Ereffe, Côte de Cherave, and the Mur de Huy itself. While none of these climbs are in distance, their steep gradients and repeated inclusion create a cumulative effect. Positioning becomes increasingly important on the narrow, twisting roads, particularly in the approach to the final circuits.

Despite the rolling terrain earlier in the race, large-scale attacks from distance are rare. Teams with strong climbers typically keep the race under control, allowing breakaways limited room while preserving energy for the finale. The penultimate ascent of the Mur often serves as a testing ground, but rarely proves decisive.

The Côte de Cherave, coming shortly before the final Mur, has gained tactical significance in recent editions. A well-timed acceleration here can isolate key contenders or force teams to chase, though the short descent and flat section that follow make it difficult to hold an advantage.

As ever, the race is expected to come down to the final climb of the Mur de Huy (1.3 km at around 9.6%), where gradients exceeding 15% in the steepest sections demand both explosive power and precise timing. Riders must judge their effort carefully; launching too early often leads to fading in the final metres.

Given the course design, the most likely scenario remains a reduced group arriving together at the foot of the Mur, setting up a decisive uphill sprint among the strongest puncheurs in the peloton.
