Sunday February 25th 2024: Kortrijk-Kuurne (196.4 km)

Who will win Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne 2024 according to the computer? The race starts in Kortrijk and will finish 196.4 km and 13 hills later in Kuurne.

Stats Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne

From the former winners in Kuurne Jungels, Asgreen, Stuyven and Benoot will appear at the start. Jakobsen, Pedersen, Groenewegen and Cavendish will skip the opening-weekend. Besides the prediction, we will highlight a couple of interesting stats in the run-up to the spring-classics.

The curse of Kuurne

Winning KBK this century carries the same curse as the Omloop. The winner of KBK just cannot manage to win the Ronde van Vlaanderen in the same season. Since 2001, the best performance of the winner in Kuurne was a 7th place in de Ronde: Tom Boonen in 2014. Andrei Tchmil was the last to win Kuurne and the Ronde in one season in 2000.

Experienced opening-weekend participants

Greg Van Avermaet is the rider with the most finishes in the Opening Weekend. Golden Greg finished in sixteen of his sixteen participations in the Omloop and reached Kuurne on time eleven of the twelve times. Only Tom Boonen and Sébastien Hinault were at the start more often in the opening weekend with their 29 participations; compared to Greg's 28 entries. Of the active riders,  Edvald Boasson Hagen has the most experience. With 25 participations he has 3 more participations than Kristoff and Trentin. The Norwegian will even add his 26th and 27th participation this weekend.

Two times podium in one weekend?

Never before has a rider won both the Omloop and Kuurne in the same weekend. It has happened ten times that a rider has finished on the podium of both the Omloop and Kuurne since they have been held in the same weekend (1961). Boonen (2007) and Sagan (2017) are the only two riders who have achieved this in the 21st century. According to the computer,  Van Aert, Laporte and Philipsen currently have the best credentials to repeat that trick. Will one of them join the ranks of Boonen and Sagan, among others, after this weekend?
