Last year

Last year's edition saw Elisa Balsamo, as reigning world champion, triumph on the Vanackerestraat in Wevelgem. The 2022 race was also the first time that women passed through De Moeren and climbed the steep side of the Kemmelberg. The Kemmelberg climb will once again feature on the course, along with other landmarks from World War I.

The results from last year's race demonstrate that unpredictable moments can always occur during Gent-Wevelgem. Belgian champion and top favorite Lotte Kopecky seemed to distinguish herself by forming a breakaway group, but this group was caught back at the second climb of the Scherpenberg. The steep Kemmelberg did not cause any separation, and so the peloton went in a group to the finish in Wevelgem, where Balsamo triumphed in the sprint.
