From 6 to 13 July 2025, the Giro d’Italia Women will traverse northern Italy. Eight stages, 919 kilometres, 14,300 metres of elevation and one Maglia Rosa. The race offers a mix of time trials, sprint opportunities, punchy hills, and gruelling mountain stages. Since 2024, the organisation has been in the hands of RCS which also responsible for the men’s Giro, Once again they’ve designed a balanced route that keeps the general classification battle alive until the very last day.

Giro d'Italia Women 2025 - Route

Stage 1 – Sunday, 6 July: Bergamo – Bergamo (14.2 km, ITT)

The Giro opens with a short, technical individual time trial through the streets of Bergamo. The route winds through the modern Chorus Life district and features some gentle inclines and sharp corners, but no real climbs. A day for explosive time trial specialists to seize the pink jersey early. According to Rouleur, this is a chance for GC contenders to land an early blow, but also a stage that demands caution due to its technical nature.

Stage 2 – Monday, 7 July: Clusone – Aprica (92 km, mountain)

After a descent towards Lake Iseo, the real climbing begins. The finale ascends to Aprica (15 km, average gradient 6%), a long and steady climb often featured in the men’s Giro. While not brutally steep, it can already create early gaps. Rouleur describes this as a relatively straightforward stage, but with a dangerous finale for those who lose focus.

Stage 3 – Tuesday, 8 July: Vezza d’Oglio – Trento (122 km, mountain)

The day kicks off with a tough ascent of the Passo del Tonale (11.6 km, average 5.7%), the highest point of this Giro and crowned as the Cima Alfonsina Strada. After the summit, a long descent leads into Trento, where a fast and technical finish awaits. Rouleur notes that despite the early climb, this stage could also favour sprinters with climbing legs – provided they survive the descent.

Stage 4 – Wednesday, 9 July: Castello Tesino – Pianezze (142 km, mountain)

A relentless day of ups and downs through the foothills of the Dolomites. The final climb to Pianezze (10 km, average 7%) is steep and set above the Prosecco hills. This is where punchy climbers and explosive GC riders can make a difference. Rouleur calls this a key stage for the overall standings, with a climb that invites long-range attacks.

Stage 5 – Thursday, 10 July: Mirano – Monselice (120 km, flat)

A flat transitional stage across the Po Valley, with no categorised climbs. Sprinters’ teams will be eager to control the race here. The finale skirts the Euganean Hills but remains flat enough for a bunch sprint. According to Rouleur, this is one of the few true rest days for the GC contenders.

Stage 6 – Friday, 11 July: Bellaria-Igea Marina – Terre Roveresche (145 km, hilly)

After a calm start along the Adriatic coast, the terrain turns into a rolling landscape with short, steep climbs – think 1 to 3 km with gradients up to 10%. Perfect terrain for attackers and puncheurs. Rouleur calls this stage “deceptive” – a day when the GC could unexpectedly shift.

Stage 7 – Saturday, 12 July: Fermignano – Monte Nerone (150 km, mountain)

The queen stage of this Giro. The final climb to Monte Nerone (13.5 km, average 7.5%, max >10%) is long, tough, and unforgiving. This is where the GC will be decided. Rouleur highlights that this climb is new to the women’s Giro and its profile invites heroic solo efforts or dramatic collapses.

Stage 8 – Sunday, 13 July: Forlì – Imola (134 km, hilly)

The final stage heads to the iconic Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola. Along the way, riders face the Cima Gallisterna (2.7 km, average 9.7%), made famous during the 2020 World Championships. A short but steep climb that can split the peloton. Rouleur calls this stage “anything but ceremonial” – with over 2,000 metres of climbing, it’s a last chance to shake up the GC.
