Tuesdas May 20th 2025: Stage 10 - Lucca - PIca (28.6 km, ITT)
Tuesday 20 May is all about the tenth stage of the Giro d’Italia 2025: a 28.6 kilometre individual time trial between Lucca and Pisa. After the second rest day, the riders will be presented with a fast and almost flat route, ideal for specialists to distinguish themselves.
The stage starts in Lucca, where the riders will first make a half lap around the famous city walls. Then they will follow a course with little elevation change towards Pisa. Halfway there is a light, false flat section, but most of the route is flat and fast. Two intermediate measuring points along the way will give an indication of the performances. The finish is close to the iconic Tower of Pisa, where the last metres are over cobblestones and a wide asphalt strip.
This time trial mainly offers opportunities for specialists to gain time on rivals who are less skilled in time trials. The expectation is that the speed will be high and that there may be significant differences. Last year, Lucca was also involved in the Giro, as the finish location of a stage won by Benjamin Thomas from an early breakaway. This year, however, it is a pure battle against the clock, without a peloton.
With a fast course and an iconic finish, this time trial is an important stage in the battle for pink, in which the best time trialists can show themselves and have a major influence on the classification.
