The Amstel Gold Race 2025 is 255.9 kilometres long and includes 34 climbs. After a few years of absence, the Cauberg will return in the final of the race this year. From the top of this climb, it is another 2.5 kilometres to the finish.
Until 2016, the Cauberg was traditionally the last climb of the race. Because this often resulted in a closed final, the course was adjusted in 2017. Since then, the Bemelerberg has been the last obstacle, which led to more active and open finals. The 2019 edition, in which Mathieu van der Poel came back in the final phase and won, is a well-known example of this.
The organisation has now chosen to place the Cauberg late in the course again, without removing the Bemelerberg. This keeps the final technical and challenging. The design of the race remains largely the same: many short climbs on narrow roads with little time for recovery.
The race starts in Maastricht. After just 12 kilometres, the first climb awaits, the Maasberg. From that moment on, the hills follow each other in quick succession. Most climbs are short and not extremely steep, but the large number of them makes the race tough.
The course becomes tougher in the last 50 kilometres. Within a short period of time, the Gulperberg, Kruisberg, Eyserbosweg and Fromberg follow in succession. Then comes the Keuterberg, with a gradient of up to 22%, where Tadej Pogačar made his decisive move in 2023. About 10 kilometres later, the first passage of the Cauberg follows, 800 metres long with an average gradient of 6.5% and a steepest point of 12.8%.
The final lap is 19.8 kilometres long. After crossing the finish line, the riders first climb the Geulhemmerberg, followed by the Kuitenbergweg and the Bemelerberg. Then a shortcut leads to the second and final Cauberg, after which the course rises slightly to the finish line.
