The Giro d'Italia 2025 starts on Friday May 9th with three days of racing in Albania, after which the peloton enters Italy. The riders will be presented with a varied menu: from flat sprint opportunities to tough hilly stages, from heroic gravel sectors to long time trials, and of course a tough final week in the mountains.

The opening stage between Durazzo and Tirana immediately offers opportunities for the fast men, although there are plenty obstacles on the road to make surprises possible. After a short time trial in the capital Tirana, a hilly stage follows around Valona, before the Giro moves to southern Italy for a restday.
Fast stages await the sprinters in the heel of the Italian boot, but here too there are stages with an extra treacherous finale. After a visit to Naples and a series of hilly stages via the Abruzzo towards Tuscany, the famous sterrati, unpaved roads that can provide a spectacle, await in Siena.
The second restday heralds the second part of the Giro: with a long time trial between Lucca and Pisa, a number of difficult stages through the Apennines, and more opportunities for punchers and sprinters. From Veneto, the peloton slowly climbs towards the Dolomites, where the third week becomes mercilessly tough.
The final mountain stages are traditionally very tough, with high-altitude finishes in Brentonico, Bormio and Sestriere, among others. The Giro 2025 concludes on Sunday June 1st in Rome, where after three gruelling weeks there will be one last sprint for glory.
